The book Blood On The River by Eliza Corbone is about an orphan boy named Samuel Collier and his journey to the New World. First, Samuel is arrested and is forced to become a page to Captain John who is in charge of the ship headed for the New World. The big step to the New World will take the entire James Town colony's cooperation and hard work. The problem is that the gentlemen that were sent by the Virginia Company to find gold and any other profit do not see it that way. They are set on making the commoners do all of the work. Captain Smith immeditly speaks agianst this and the rich members of the colony just as quickly dislike the Captian. The catch is that Captian Smith is the only one who can keep peace with the local natives, so he continues on being the leader. As life goes on, Samual sees that the "savages" have saved the colonists time after time, but not all the coonists agree that peace with the natives is nessisary to there survival. In the end, Samuel stays and enjoys life in the New World and the colony grows large!
